The role you’ll contribute:

Under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse/RN, perform general clerical duties, observe the telemetry monitors for a designated time frame, and provide specific non-professional services to expedite the efficient operation of the nursing unit in accordance with the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the Nursing Department and hospital administration.

Recognize emergency alarms and operate the summon light system. It is imperative to be capable of identifying and documenting fundamental arrhythmias and responding accordingly.   • Responds to patient inquiries and telephone conversations
  • Notifies the Charge Nurse/RN of pending admissions and the patient’s presence on the unit or return to the room from surgery/procedure, with no more than three (3) documented variances, as observed by the Charge Nurse/RN.
  • Develops charts for prospective admissions. Develops medical record documents subsequent to patient discharge.
  • Labels charts and doors with pertinent information, allergy information, and appropriate identification.
  • Consistently updates the patient activity board in accordance with the observations of the Charge Nurse/RN.
  • All admissions, transfers, and discharges are consistently and accurately posted on desk calendars and activity boards during each shift, as observed by the Charge Nurse/RN.
  • Provides physicians with assistance in locating charts, reports, and equipment; consistently informs the Charge Nurse/RN of the physicians’ arrival on the unit.
  • Guarantees that all patient documents are stocked with the necessary certified forms for the upcoming shift, ensuring that the appropriate forms are always available for documentation by nurses and physicians.
  • As observed by the Charge Nurse/RN, ensures that the necessary supply of supplies and forms is maintained without stock accumulating by checking, ordering, and distributing them in accordance with unit policy.
  • Continually updates the patient whiteboard during the bedside shift report and throughout the shift.
  • Responds to bed alarms and summon signals with urgency to guarantee patient safety.
  • Charts the patient’s care in the patient medical record, including vital signs, baths, I&O, weights, and activity.
  • Ensures that the charge nurse/RN is kept informed of any changes in the patient, aberrant glucose levels, or abnormal vital signs that are observed during the provision of care.
  • Administers blood glucose testing to patients in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provides patients with water on a two-hour basis and as required.
  • Stocks gloves, removes debris from patient rooms, and collects linens from patient rooms.
  • Prepares the next patient’s chamber by cleaning and emptying it.
  • Retrieves meal containers and records the intake in the patient’s medical record.
  • Through appropriate observation, documentation, and reporting to the Charge Nurse/RN, assists in the maintenance of suicide precautions.
  • Contributes to the unit’s efficient operation by engaging in collaboration.
  • Responds positively and adjusts to unforeseen changes in burden or employment.
  • Remains in the designated work area and/or ensures that the Charge Nurse/RN is informed of their whereabouts at all times during the assigned shift.
  • Assists with unit errands upon request. When feasible, volunteers to assist with errands and other obligations.
  • Executes all other responsibilities as directed.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :

Minimum qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Texas Certified Nurse’s Aide OR
  • A graduate of a hospital-specific PCT training program that has been approved (e.g., THR/THH or Center For Learning Program) OR
  • A nursing student who has satisfactorily completed the fundamentals within the past two years OR
  • Successfully completed a foreign nursing program OR
  • Military experience with medical training equivalent to EMT-B OR
  • In lieu of an active and approved certification, one year of relevant PCT/EMT experience
