  • To be eligible, you must have a Certificate of Proficiency in Child Care and Development or a Certificate in Early Childhood Education from a college or university that has been recognized by the state. You must also have worked full-time with children in a licensed or certified child care center in Texas as a caregiver for at least one year, or you must have worked full-time as an assistant teacher in a public or private school from birth to kindergarten during a regular school year, or you must have worked as a substitute or part-time teacher in a public or private school from birth to kindergarten for a total of two years during a normal school year.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • You must have an associate’s degree in early childhood education or child care and development from a college or university that has been recognized. You must also have worked full-time with kids from birth to kindergarten for one year in a DFPS (licensed or certified center) or a public or private accredited school.

  • Texas Rising Star Guidelines, THHS/CCR Child Care Licensing Standards, TDA Food and Nutrition-CACFP, and NAEYC Program Standards all say that required annual professional training hours must be finished. If you don’t have certification within one (1) week of being hired, you must get it within that time. At the neighborhood, state, and national levels, these hours must be worked.
