Responsibilities of Healthcare Assistant Jobs in Ireland:
Upon completion of the requisite training, supervised practice, and competency achievement assessments, you will be able to fulfill all of your responsibilities as a member of the surgery team in the ophthalmic (IOL) and laser vision correction (LVC) departments. In addition, you will be accountable for the subsequent obligations:
- Preoperative testing involves conducting examinations and treatment-related evaluations, as well as assisting in the consent appointment process. This process includes providing patients with relevant information before their IOL or LVC procedure.
- Providing preoperative and postoperative instructions regarding eye care; maintaining accurate medical records; scheduling follow-up appointments; and discharging the patient.
- The following are the responsibilities of a laser technician: laser preparation and calibration, data comprehension, data encoding and transfer, and laser operation safety.
- Coordination involves the management of inquiries and the regulation of patient flow on the day of assent and surgery appointments to ensure that there are minimal patient wait times.
- Assisting the surgeon during consent appointments and treatments by functioning as a scrub assistant (LVC only), administering ocular drops, and taking notes.
- Performing the responsibilities of an HCA in the IOL theatre, which include assisting the surgical team and patients during the procedure and decontaminating instruments.
- Participating in the activities of the end of the treatment day, which include the organization of “end of day” reports for the headquarters, the filing and updating of patient files, the maintenance of a clean department, and the ordering of supplies and lenses.
- Reporting adverse incidents is a proactive approach to patient safety and quality and risk management.
