Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) for our Cork clinic. This position may require occasional travel to other surgery clinics, with travel expenses covered by Optical Express.

Responsibilities:
Upon completing the necessary training, supervised practice, and competency assessments, you will be responsible for:
1. Preoperative Testing
- Conducting eye examinations and assessments related to IOL and Laser Vision Correction (LVC) procedures.
- Assisting in the consent appointment process, ensuring patients receive accurate and relevant information before their procedures.
2. Patient Care and Communication
- Providing preoperative and postoperative instructions for eye care.
- Maintaining accurate medical records and scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Discharging patients and ensuring a positive patient experience.
3. Laser Technician Support
- Preparing and calibrating lasers for procedures.
- Encoding and transferring data while maintaining laser operation safety.
4. Coordination and Patient Flow Management
- Managing patient inquiries and ensuring efficient patient flow on the day of consent and surgery appointments.
- Minimizing patient wait times and optimizing clinic operations.
5. Surgical Assistance
- Assisting the surgeon during consent appointments and treatments as a scrub assistant (LVC only).
- Administering ocular drops and documenting surgical procedures.
- Supporting the surgical team in the IOL theatre, including instrument decontamination.
6. Post-Treatment Coordination
- Compiling end-of-day reports for headquarters.
- Organizing patient files and maintaining a clean, organized department.
- Managing inventory, including supplies and lenses.
7. Risk and Quality Management
- Reporting adverse incidents as part of proactive patient safety and quality management protocols.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:
Educational and Professional Requirements:
- QQI Level 5 Certificate in Care Skills and Care of the Older Person (mandatory for healthcare assistants in Ireland).
- Relevant experience as a healthcare assistant or in a clinical setting (preferred but not mandatory).
