The Department of Medicine at the Cumming School of Medicine is currently accepting applications for the position of Research Nurse. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-Time position is expected to last for approximately six months, with the potential for an extension, contingent upon the duration of grant funding.

The individual who is appointed will be responsible for the collection of project data and will be held accountable to the Principal Investigator. This initiative is funded by the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Health System (PRIHS) Program and pertains to perioperative glycemic management.

In the workplace, a substantial quantity of time may be devoted to operating a computer and manipulating equipment. The study’s outcome will be substantially influenced by the responsibilities of the research nurse.

This position is recurring and part-time. Recurring part-time personnel are hourly employees whose responsibilities fluctuate on a regular basis.

Position Description

An overview of the primary responsibilities and obligations of the position, which may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Examine and extract relevant patient information from the Connect Care patient record.
  • Evaluate patient data in conformance with research protocols and data definitions by entering patient information precisely into REDCap.
  • Ensure that a patient database is secure, accurate, and well-organized.
  • Identify any complications that may arise during or after the surgical procedure
  • Applying the Claiven-Dindo scale, assess and categorize the severity of surgical and postoperative complications.
  • Rank the severity of surgical site infection, classify types and subtypes of surgical site infection, and determine and adjudicate the occurrence of surgical site infection using patient chart data.
  • The utilization of clinical judgment in advanced practice nursing will be required to accurately identify and code patient complications during the data collection procedure.
  • Competent personnel who provide professional, expert service are necessary to guarantee a high standard of care.
  • Communication of any concerns regarding data collection to the Principal Investigators
  • Confidential research data management
  • Additional research responsibilities may be assigned.
