Job Description and Responsibilities:

As a Health Care Assistant (HCA) at Carewest, you will play an essential role in delivering client care. You will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to monitor and support clients’ physical and emotional needs, ensuring their comfort and dignity at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living, including mobility, grooming, bathing, and feeding.
  • Monitor changes in clients’ health status and report any significant changes to the RN or LPN.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with client rehabilitation and therapeutic interventions as part of the rehabilitation program.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Carewest’s professional and ethical standards.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with best practices in healthcare.

Program Overview:

Rehabilitation and Community Transition Program (RCTP) is designed for individuals who are medically stable but need additional support before returning to their homes or communities. As an HCA, you will assist with clients’ rehabilitation, helping them transition back into everyday life while ensuring they receive the appropriate care.

Qualifications and Experience:

To be eligible for the Health Care Assistant (HCA) position at Carewest, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of Grade 12 and an Alberta-accredited Health Care Aide (HCA) diploma.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
  • Physical Capabilities: Regular lifting, transferring, and repositioning of clients is required.
  • Registration: Active registration in the Alberta HCA Directory is required.
  • Experience: While experience in healthcare facilities is an asset, it is not mandatory. Specific program experience or education is a plus.
